Jack Turchin recalls first picking up a pair of drumsticks from before age 8. Thanks to music-loving parents, Jack was exposed to all styles, from rock ‘n roll to jazz, standards to rhythm and blues, big band to big show. Lessons soon followed, then a self-admitted man-crush on Buddy Rich. Finally, as an adult, Jack was fortunate enough to call himself a full-time musician.
As an original member of the retro rock super-group Lil Elmo & The Cosmos, Jack and the band were fortunate enough to share stages and open shows for Three Dog Night, The Beach Boys, Sheila E., The Righteous Brothers. Throughout the past three decades, with the band, Jack has played at the L.A. County Fair, Las Vegas casinos such as Caesar’s Palace and corporate gigs in Norway, Hong Kong and France. Yes, Lil Elmo & The Cosmos were one of those bands who played at Disneyland’s “Tomorrowland Terrace,” riding UP to the audience in an elevated stage from below Tomorrowland. As a solo artist, Jack has drummed for the legendary Chuck Berry and now drums for various other artists. Jack also continues to play with Lil Elmo & The Cosmos and still frequents local jam sessions, where he often sits in with some of the San Fernando Valley’s long-time and best-loved musicians.
Jack is 40-year resident of the San Fernando Valley, sharing his home with his wife, a large dog, orange striped cat and a loud-mouthed pink Moluccan Cockatoo. He is an uncle to 9 nieces and nephews ranging from age 1 to 36, and one grand-niece. Jack is currently playing with Lil Elmo & The Cosmos at several venues, including The Tropicana Express in Laughlin NV, The Pahrump Nugget in Pahrump NV.
